Arianna came home from school today and found a package with her name on it.

Sharon has had little success with teaching Arianna how to play piano. St. Catherine of Siena music teacher, Mr. Bernard, seems to have captured her imagination. At least a little bit. Since we have another recorder in the house, Arianna and I practice together. It's fun. I don't think Arianna is a prospective St. Catherine band member, though.

CCD has a month or so left to go. My class is anxious to be rid of me and my lessons. But, I will miss them. --Even the scamps, who disrupt the class.
How strange to attend a performance of The Mikado this afternoon. Strange because my attending a performance of this very show in 1985 marked the beginning of my life with Sharon. We had had brief chats at Kroch's and Brentano's. And, in passing she said that she was going to be singing the role of Piti-Sing in the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company at the University of Chicago. Not yet a disinterested watcher of the arts, I made my way down to Hyde Park and . . . .Who would have predicted all those years ago that 25 years later I would return to Mandell Hall with Sharon as my wife and our daughter.A wonderful afternoon. After the performance, we walked over to the Regenstein Library, where an exhibit of the Company's memorabilia was on display in celebration of their 50th anniversary. Pictures of Ruth L. and others we know. Sharon's name in a variety of programs from the 1980's. Costumes. Set designs. Nostalgia. For supper, a trip to China Town. Won Kow. Arianna drinking Oolong tea out of little cup is a memory that puts a smile on my face.
One gravitates to the dramatic. It's our nature. So, the domestic peace of Grandpa, Sharon, and Arianna, sharing laughs over a game of Rummy probably captures nobody's attention but for the photographer, in whose home this peace is a God-send.
